As of July 1st, $$ penalties for caught driving without Insurance has increased dramatically. First offense is $250. Second offense is $500. Third offense wins the grand prize of $1000. The BMV will also place you on a mandatory SR22 (3 year monitored probation). The BMV no longer uses SR50 (phased out). -- In short, shit just got real, my friends!
Al...so, parents/people get confused about the law that states "Every single Indiana driver must carry financial responsibility (Insurance)". This means even thought the car they are driving is insured by someone else( the owner of it), the driver/son/friend ALSO must have insurance on himself or listed on A policy somewhere. For instance, if you borrow a friends insured car because you don't own a car and get pulled over or have an accident, the car will be covered in an accident...BUT, the state will still suspend YOU if you do not have insurance somewhere. Reason being if you injured someone due to negligence, the bodily injury suit/claim would be against you, the driver of the vehicle, not the owner of it.
